IT comp any giant Cognizant got hit by “Maze” Ransomware cyberattack, due to which some of the services to its clients got disrupted. Cognizant is taking all the major steps to contain the incident, with the help of cyber defense companies.
Ransomware is a type of malicious program which is used by hackers to take control of files that are infected by them and they demand money to recover files, according to McAfee hackers who deploy Maze threaten to release information on the internet if the internet targeted company fail to pay.
Maze is not like typical data-encrypting Ransomware, Maze not only spreads across a network, infecting and encrypting every computer in its path, but it also exfiltrates the data to the attackers’ servers where it is held for ransom.
According to Website BleepingComputer If the Maze operators conducted this attack, they were likely present in Cognizant’s network for weeks, if not longer”, When enterprise-targeting Ransomware operators breach a network, they will slowly and stealthily spread laterally throughout the system as they steal files and steal credentials.

FBI also warned companies privately about this Maze Ransomware in December-2019
