Error Message “Driver wudfrd Failed To Load” 5 Quick Fix

“Driver wudfrd Failed To Load” error occurs when you upgrade the device to Windows 10. The main reason for this error is termed to be incompatible drivers. When the device is updated to the Windows 10 version, the drivers are overwritten by the Microsoft drivers. Sometimes, the problem also arises due to the Windows Driver Foundation. The problem is often affiliated to the USB drivers and has an Event ID 219. Hence, this error is also called error 219. Kernel-PnP is the source of this error.

Through this article, we have listed some of the methods by which you can resolve this error.

Solution 1: Updating Windows

When you update Windows, it automatically updates the drivers present in the device. To solve this issue, the updates can be checked manually.

  • Select Windows + I.
  • This will open Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security
  • Then, select Windows Update.
  • Check for the pending updates in the right panel of the screen.
  • Install all the pending updates.
Note: After Windows is updated, restart the device. The error might have been resolved. If not, you can follow Solution 2.

Solution 2: Using Windows Driver Foundation Service

If Windows Driver Foundation is disabled then the error message, “Driver wudfrd Failed to Load” may appear. This is an important service that needs to be enabled.

Given below are the steps to enable Windows Driver Foundation Service:

  • Select Windows + R. 
  • The Run window will open.
  • Enter services.msc in the Run dialog box.
  • Press OK.
  • Go to Services and click on Windows Driver Foundation. 
  • Go to User-mode Driver Framework. Double click on it. This will open the Properties window.
  • Now, change the Startup type to Automatic in the General tab.
  • If the status ofService is not in Running mode, press the Start button. This will enable the service.
  • Click on Apply and select OK. The changes will be saved.
Note: After enabling, restart the device. The error might have been resolved. If the error persists follow Solution 3.

Solution 3: Disabling Hard Disk Hibernation

The steps to disable Hard Disk Hibernation are as follows:

  • Select Windows + X and click on the Power option. The Power option is available in the Start menu.
  • Press on Additional Power which is present in the right panel. The Control Panel will open.
  • Change the current power plan to a Change plan. To change the current plan, click onChange Plan
    Settings.
  • On the new page, select advanced power settings.
  • Now, go to the Power option, and click on expand Hard disk. Then, turn it off.
  • Change the setting for both On Battery and Plugged-in options to Never.
  • SelectApply and pressOK.
Note: After disabling, restart the device. The error might have been resolved. If not, you can go for Solution 4.

Solution 4: Updating the Incompatible Drivers

The incompatible drivers can be located in the Device Manager. These drivers can be identified by the exclamation mark(!) present beside their icons. In presence of the incompatible drivers, the instructions given below can be followed to resolve the issue:

  • In the Run Dialog box enter “devmgmt.msc”. This will open the Device Manager.
  • Click OK.
  • Now select the driver that has an exclamation mark beside it by right-clicking on it.
  • Click on the Update driver present in the Context menu.
  • Press Search automatically to look for the updated software for the driver.

If the latest driver software cannot be found on the device, you may download it from the driver’s official website. Then, you can reinstall the driver manually.

Note: Restart the device. The error might have been resolved. If not, you can follow Solution 5

Solution 5: Reinstalling the USB Controllers

Sometimes, the USB drivers are the cause for the error, “driver WudfRd failed to load” which can be resolved by reinstalling the USB controllers.

  • In the Run Dialog box enter “devmgmt.msc”. This will open the Device Manager.
  • Click OK.
  • You can also open the Device Manager by clicking Windows + X.
  • To expand, double-click on Universal Bus Controllers.
  • To Uninstall the device, right-click on the USB controller.
  • A confirmation window will then appear. SelectOKto continue.
  • Repeat the same steps to uninstall the USB controllers.
Note: After uninstalling, restart the device. The USB controllers will be reinstalled automatically.
