The camera of Google meet can be flipped but with a twist the video will only be mirrored in the preview seen by you, and your audience will watch the unmirrored view. It’s done just to show the mirror view to you in the preview without making it too jarring. For end users, the camera will not be mirrored or flipped. Even though you’ll see the chats in a mirrored way, the orientation for the viewers will always remain unmirrored. This way anyone can share and explain important topics to their audience. If the video gets flipped, the charts and whiteboard will be of no use.

Host Seeing The Flipped Camera

When you conduct any meeting on Google meet via a smartphone or a webcam, the video preview of the host is flipped on its own. It’s one of the popular ongoing trends associated with the selfie’s popularity and how the selfie camera was introduced in smartphones. We usually see our mirrored image every day & that’s why viewing the unmirrored image can be a little annoying.

To overcome this problem and to get an aesthetic and selfie-friendly environment, many smartphone companies have begun the process of introducing a mirrored selfie view so that users can resemble themselves just the way they do while looking at the mirror. The popularity of this trend has now become a mandatory feature in many technologies that we use to capture videos such as tablets, smartphones, dedicated cameras, laptops, etc.

Method To Flip Or Mirror Camera On Google Meet On Windows & Mac

As we have mentioned in the previous section, the camera is mirrored just for you and not for the audience. Therefore, flipping a camera is not required. If you are still willing to mirror your video in Google meet, follow the instructions mentioned in the upcoming sections carefully to Flip or Mirror Camera on Google Meet on Windows and Mac.

Method 1: Via in-built Camera feature

On Mac:

  • Step 1: Visit the ‘Launchpad’ of the Mac to start the application of ‘QuickTime Player’.
  • Step 2: Make a feed of your virtual video in the QuickTime player. For this, select the option of ‘File’ present on the top-left side of the screen and choose the option ‘New Movie Recording’ from the list of displayed options on the screen.
  • Step 3: You’ll see the screen of QuickTime recording along with the Video preview. Now you can start Google Meet via Chrome and join the meeting to show your mirrored video.
  • Step 4: There will be an option of ‘Present Now’ on the meeting screen. Select it and then click on the option of ‘A Window’.
  • Step 5: Click on the option of ‘QuickTime Window’ and then click on the ‘Share button’ for presenting your mirrored video. And you are done! The joined participants will watch the mirrored video that you have captured from the QuickTime player application.

On Windows:

  • Step 1: Open the application of Camera on Windows 10. Select the ‘Start button’ and look out for the camera.
  • Step 2: As you open the camera, you’ll see your flipped video.
  • Step 3: Via any web browser, join the meeting on Google Meet where you are willing to display your mirrored video.
  • Step 4: You’ll see an option of ‘Present Now’ at the bottom-right corner. Click on it.
  • Step 5: Now you’ll get an option of ‘A Window’, select it.
  • Step 6: Choose the option of ‘Camera App Window’ for your mirrored video, choose the option of ‘Share’. Now your viewers will see the mirrored video that you are presenting from the camera preview.

Method 2: Chrome Extension

While casting the screen, if you wish to mirror a particular video on the webpage, we’ll suggest you, use a chrome extension. There’s an extension that will help you to flip or mirror your screen for flipping the text as well while casting the screen. The name of the extension is ‘Flip Screen’ which will help you out with flipping the complete webpage content. If you are willing to mirror the content only, then you can use the extension named ‘Video Mirror’. The content available on the video will be flipped and it’s one of the compatible extensions on Google Meet.

Method 3: Flip Camera without Screen Sharing

The above method can help you to flip your video via an inbuilt application of Camera and then permits you to share your screen just for giving a mirror effect. If you are not interested in presenting the screen but also want the viewers to watch out your mirror view direct from Google Meet, then you should try this method for sure. In this method, you need to use a third-party application such as Snap Camera to provide a mirror effect. The method is divided into three basic procedures that are Installation of the Snap Camera, Using Filters for Inverting the Camera, and Enabling Snap Camera on Google Meet.

Installation of Snap Camera

  • Step 1: Visit the download page of Snap Camera via any web browser to download and install it in your system.
  • Step 2: After downloading it, allow the app to access your camera by accepting all the permissions asked by the app. After permitting the app, it will modify the system camera and alter it accordingly. To grant the access camera to the application, follow the steps mentioned below:

On Mac:

  • Step 1: Head over to the ‘System Preferences’ and select the option of ‘Security and Privacy’.
  • Step 2: Choose ‘Privacy’ and then click on ‘Camera’ and mark the checkbox present next to the Snap Camera.

On Windows:

  • Step 1: Simultaneously press and hold on to the ‘Windows key + I’. Select the option of ‘Privacy’.
  • Step 2: Choose the option of Camera and toggle the switch of ‘Allow apps to access your camera’ and ‘Snap Camera’ to the right side.

Using Inverted Filter

  • After permitting the Snap Camera to access the inbuilt camera, use the app and find out the ‘Inverted Filter’ to flip your video.
  • Look out for the inverted filters from the ‘Community-made filters’ in the Snap Camera by typing ‘Inverted’, ‘flip’, or ‘Mirror’ in the search box.
  • After selecting the filter on the snap camera, check out if you can see your inverted view directly as a preview on the app. Now you can use this filter on Google Meet.

Enabling Snap Camera as ‘Default Input’

After applying the mirrored look in the Snap Camera, enable it on Google Meet. As you can use Google Meet via any web browser for allowing you to alter the input devices for numerous websites that you browse. Firefox, Brave, and Google Chrome permit the user to apply Snap Camera as the default camera but, we cannot make it possible for Safari on Mac due to privacy issues. For enabling Snap Camera on the web browser while joining a Google Meet follow the instructions below:

  • Step 1: Click on the three-dots icon present at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • Step 2: Select the ‘Settings’ option.
  • Step 3: Choose the ‘Video’ tab.
  • Step 4: Now click on ‘Snap Camera’ as the default inside the section of ‘Camera’.
  • Step 5: Close the dialog box with a single click on the ‘X’ icon. You will now see a mirror video of yourself.
