So there is a major update for iPhone users and today I will let you know about this update. Google now allows you to turn off auto image download on Gmail for iPhone. It aims for making the email conversation a tad bit more secure and private. While on the other hand if we see Android users had this feature a while ago, iPhone users can now stop images from loading automatically on the Gmail app simply by changing their account settings. This feature was updated on September 4, 2019, 10:38 AM IST (Indian Standard Time)
So when users are accessing their emails using the Gmail app on an iPad or iPhone they can now choose not to have images inside an email load automatically. This option is included in the setting menu within the app that will allow Gmail to block any images in incoming emails, including the invisible trackers that come usually with the image and also reduce the risk of malware that is often attached with the images in the mails.
This setting currently is only available for the iPhone users who have personal Gmail accounts and not for those who are under G Suite and not for enterprise ones also. For the users who are wondering, an update is already available on the App Store with a changelog which exactly explains you to how to find the toggle. You have to follow just a few steps to enable this for new upcoming messages which I will tell you how to enable in the following points:
- First of all, you need to go to the settings
- Then Specific account
- Then images
- And finally, select the option namely “Ask before displaying external images”
All the above points or steps are explained by the changelog itself.
The inclusion of this new setting in Gmail for iOS was pointed out by the verge which stems from a controversy in July when a former Twitter executive Mike Davidson that how a subscription email service was allowing users to track the location and time when an email was opened. Google has introduced the same identical image blocking feature on its web client for a while now. It was easy for the users of iPad and iPhones to know that their Gmail app did not have a similar toggle in place by default. It is one very easy point if you think about it that how automatic image loading can be sometimes potentially problematic. The main point in this involves is security of the users of iPad and iPhone users must not be neglected, the risk with automatic image downloading in emails is that if you someone attaches a malware with the image, that piece of malicious software also gets downloaded on the device, which can then remotely transmit your data.

More few updates are coming like Google will soon improve Gmail’s grammar correction with the help of artificial intelligence, as the company announced recently. Now Onward instead of clicking on Gmail’s dot menu in the lower right corner and choosing “check spelling” while you write the email, Gmail will start doing it automatically, detecting spelling errors and grammatical issues, and even autocorrecting some common spelling mistakes. This feature of Grammar check and autocorrect will be turned on by default but can be turned off by the user by entering Gmail’s settings. For now, this feature is only available for English. The engine used for powering the feature is the same one Google is using in Docs, where it was introduced in July 2018. This feature is only available for enterprise Gmail users. There’s no further information updated if it would be expanded to all Gmail users.

These seemingly minute improvements now join a host of other features in Gmail, introduced to block tracking, such as preventing a sender from locating a recipient through an IP address, etc.
This year in April Google’s Gmail service completed 15 years and now has more than 1.5 billion active users, which makes it the most popular email platform.
This feature has come into controversy anyways but people need to know that it is not a default feature so they will have the power to stop the images from loading automatically and also save much amount of data of the users
